Future of office application
By announcement of Google Apps for domains the competition between classical desktop applications and new "web 2.0" application gets hot again. With Google apps or other beta application available online, users enjoy using their applications wherever they are online without carrying any document and without worrying about what kind of computer,OS they are using.
The new approach, which have been discussed for about 3 years has a direction: online operating system. Online operating system concept is a threat to Microsoft which dominates the OS market. Internet penetration will help the web applications, however the security concerns and internet availability are the basic obstacles so far.
I tried Google spreadsheet, which is very helpful if you are lost between spreadsheets that reside on your multiple computers(home, work, school etc). It was always a problem for me to find a spreadsheet that I used it for a small note only, or I had many versions of a document and cannot find which one was the last "useful" one. Collaboration is also a powerful side of Google spreadsheet. Gmail, the life safer, is both my mailbox and my document storage area.
However security problem(both internal and external) and internet availability is a concern for me. There were moments in the early times of gmail when the "service is temporarily unavailable" was annoying. Also sometimes I couldn't get online too. Another issue is the password theft of your account which is problem of many MSN messenger users.
